A Few of Our Favorite Things: New Orleans Street Art
05/23/2019I love art—old art, new art, street art, illustration, photography, upcycled, deconstructed, architecture, sculpture, murals, patterns in pop culture, botanicals and so on.
Last time, I shared my connection discoveries from inside the fancy, official Martin Lawrence Gallery on Royal Street in the French Quarter. (Inspiration Destination: New Orleans—Me and Matisse from February)
Let’s flip the script and talk water main covers. We discovered these on a walking tour of New Orleans. #Leluna @The_odd_boxer has made the mundane water meter cover you see on sidewalks in every city the canvas for pop culture and political commentary.
Each of you will evaluate the politics from your own perspective, of course. I did the same for myself. However, I love these for the art. They change all the time. Treasure hunting for these in the city was a blast. I appreciate the artistic effort and dedication that goes into keeping these rolling. That’s consistency and commitment!
When in The Big Easy, be sure to look down. You never know what you’ll find!
These are the covers I came across while we were there, some of which have likely been changed out since then. More work available at: https://www.yooying.com/the_odd_boxer
